Atrial Fibrillation - Radiofrequency Ablation

Chronic atrial fibrillation usually exists with the mitral valve disease. Besides the valve disease complaints, this arrhythmia is also problematic, and it increases the risk for embolism.

Radiofrequency ablation method is expected to take the place of Maze operations because of its easy application. Instead of numerous incisions in Maze operations, chaotic transmission lines of the atrial fibrillation are aligned by burning of the specified lines in the left atrium for 2 minutes, creating scar tissue with the waves obtained from the radiofrequency generator produced by Boston Scientific. The left atrium can be sewn inside, connected from outside, or cut and sewn at the end of the operation. The operation is performed before the cover is inserted.

The scar tissue formed after the radiofrequency probe application.

ECGs of our two patients before and after the operation those we had very good results. We have had complete success in 82.1% of the patients (179) we treated by this method (returned to completely permanent normal sinus rhythm).

I wish to sincerely thank to following persons those with a significant contribution to the implementation of this technology:
